Google Business Profile Verification for Bhubaneswar Businesses: Setup, Fixes and the Map Pack
Google Business Profile verification is the step that puts your business on Google Maps under your control, and it is where many owners get stuck. This guide shows a Bhubaneswar business how to set up the profile, get through verification, fix the usual problems and earn a better place in the map results. Nishita Solutions, a digital marketing company in Bhubaneswar, wrote it for local owners.
In short
What is Google Business Profile verification?
Google Business Profile verification is how Google confirms that you own or manage a business before your profile appears on Google Maps.
Nishita Solutions sets up and verifies Google Business Profiles for businesses in Bhubaneswar and across Odisha.
- Decide your name, address and category first
- Expect a video, or a code by phone, text or email
- Fix the cause before you try again
Before Google Business Profile verification: decide your details
Google Business Profile verification goes far more smoothly when your details are settled first. Google compares what you enter with what it can check: your signboard, your place on the map and the number customers call. When these do not match, verification stalls.
Write these down first, exactly as you will use them everywhere:
- Your business name as it appears on your signboard and invoices, with no extra words.
- One primary category for your main business, such as "Dental clinic", plus a few secondary ones that also fit.
- Your full address as customers and the post office know it, with a landmark if your lane is hard to find.
- A phone number that someone answers during working hours.
- Your opening hours, including the days you close.
- Your website address, if you have one.
Shop, office or service area?
If customers come to your shop, clinic or office, show that address. If you go to customers, as an electrician or caterer does, hide the address and set a service area instead, such as Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. A business that does both can show both. Getting this right avoids a common reason for rejection.
How to set up your Google Business Profile
The screens change from time to time, but the order stays much the same.
Use an account the business controls
Use a Google account the business owns, not a staff member's. Add others as managers later, so the profile stays with you when people leave.
Search before you create
Search Google Maps for your business name and phone number. If a listing already exists, claim it or request access instead of creating a second one.
Add the name, category and location
Open Google Business Profile, add your business and enter the details you wrote down. Put the map pin on your entrance, not just your street.
Add contact details and hours
Add the phone number, website and hours, and list your services in the words customers use when they search.
Start verification
Google then shows the verification options for your business. Follow them exactly, and make no other edits until the check is complete.
Google Business Profile verification: what to expect
Verification is how Google confirms that your business is real, is where you say it is and is run by you. You do not pick the method: Google offers the options it thinks fit your business, and it changes these methods from time to time. Treat what follows as a general guide, and follow what your own screen asks for.
At present a short video is a common request. Some businesses are offered a code by phone, text message or email instead, and in the past many were verified by postcard. If your options differ from another owner's, that is normal.
Recording a verification video
When Google asks for a video, it usually wants one continuous recording, with no cuts or edits, that shows three things:
- Where you are: the street, a nearby landmark or the shops beside you, so Google can match the place to the map.
- Your business: the signboard with your business name, and the inside of your shop, office or workshop.
- That you run it: for example unlocking the shutter, opening a staff only area, or showing your tools, stock or a business document in your name.
Record in daylight, hold the phone steady and walk from outside to inside without stopping. A service area business without a shop can show its vehicle, tools or equipment, and anything that carries the business name.
How long verification takes
Google then reviews the proof. This often takes a few days, sometimes longer, and Google does not commit to a fixed time. While the review is pending, do not change the name, address or category, and do not create a new profile. Either can delay the check.
Common verification problems and how to fix them
Work through these causes before you try again.
The video was not accepted
Usually the signboard was not clear, the video was cut or edited, the place could not be matched to the map, or nothing showed that you run the business. Record again with all three parts in one take, in good light.
Someone else already manages your listing
A former employee, an old agency or a previous owner may have set it up. Use the request access option on the listing. The current owner is asked to respond, and if they do not, Google may let you claim it. Then keep at least two people from your own business as owners or managers.
There are two listings for one business
Duplicates split your reviews. Keep the listing with the correct details and the most reviews, and report the other as a duplicate through Google Business Profile support.
The profile was suspended
A suspension usually follows a break of Google's guidelines. Common causes are extra words in the business name, such as a city or a service; an address where nobody from the business works, such as a virtual office; or a home address shown for a business customers never visit. Fix the cause first, then appeal with proof such as a photo of your signboard, a utility bill or a registration certificate.
Verification keeps failing
Check that your name, address and phone number match your signboard, website and other listings exactly. Let any pending review finish before you try again, because submitting repeatedly does not speed it up. If nothing changes, contact Google Business Profile support from its help pages.
After verification: improve your place in the map results
Verification puts you on the map. Where you appear when someone in Bhubaneswar searches "dental clinic near me" depends on three things Google names: relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance is how well your profile matches the search, distance is how far you are from the searcher, and prominence is how well known your business is, from your reviews to the directories, articles and links that mention you.
You cannot pay Google for a better map position, and nobody can honestly promise you one. You can work on what you control:
- Fill in every field that applies: categories, services, hours, holiday hours, a plain description and details such as parking or wheelchair access.
- Add real photos of the outside, the inside, your team and your work, and add new ones every month.
- Post updates, offers and events, so the profile looks active.
- Answer calls and messages quickly. A customer who waits calls the next business on the map.
Reviews, the right way
Ask every customer for a review, not only the happy ones, with a direct review link or a QR code at your counter. Never offer a discount or gift for a review, never write reviews yourself, and never pick who gets asked. Google prohibits all three, and fake or rewarded reviews can be removed and put your profile at risk.
Reply to every review, good or bad, politely and in a few lines. A calm reply to a complaint shows future customers how you treat people.
The same details everywhere
Use the same name, address and phone number on your website, Facebook page, Justdial, IndiaMART and every other listing, so Google sees one consistent business. Link your profile to a page on your website that names your area and services.
Your Google Business Profile checklist
- The name matches your signboard, with no extra words
- The primary category describes your main business
- The map pin sits on your entrance, or your service area is set
- Phone number, website, hours and holiday hours are correct
- At least two people from your business are owners or managers
- Real photos are up, with new ones added every month
- Every customer is asked for a review, and every review gets a reply
FAQ
Google Business Profile verification: questions owners ask
How do I add my business to Google Maps?
Create or claim a Google Business Profile and complete verification. Once verified, your business can appear on Maps and in Google Search with your address, phone number, hours and reviews. There is no separate Maps listing.
Should we add Bhubaneswar or a service to our business name on Google?
No. Google asks for your real business name, as customers see it on your signboard. Adding a city or a service, for example your name followed by "AC repair Bhubaneswar", breaks its guidelines and can get the profile suspended. Your address and categories already tell Google where you are and what you do.
Does a Google Business Profile cost anything?
No. Google charges nothing to create, verify or manage a profile. Be careful with callers who claim to be from Google and ask for money to verify or rank your listing.
Can anyone promise us first place on Google Maps?
No. Google says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. What you control is a complete, active and well reviewed profile, with the same details everywhere.
How long does Google Business Profile verification take?
After you submit the proof, Google reviews it. This often takes a few days, sometimes longer, and Google does not commit to a fixed time. Do not change the name, address or category while the review is pending.
Can Nishita Solutions verify our Google Business Profile for us?
Nishita Solutions sets up the profile and guides the verification with you. Google asks the owner or manager to complete some checks, such as a video of the premises, so you take part in that step.
Why was our verification video not accepted?
Usually the signboard was not clear, the video was cut or edited, the place could not be matched to the map, or nothing showed that you run the business. Record again in one take, in good light.
